Kindergarten

For many children, Kindergarten is their first school experience. The primary purpose of the Kindergarten teacher is to provide an atmosphere in which a child can learn and grow through love and acceptance. A child who is happy will learn and become an enthusiastic participant in all activities.
The children will learn that God created us, loves us, and cares for us. They learn prayers, such as “The Hail Mary”, “The Our Father”, and “Grace” before meals. We have a weekly publication to explain gospel readings and the children attend all Masses plus Adoration each Friday.
Language Arts combines whole language with phonics. The children are engaged in the learning process by listening to stories, singing, role-playing, puppetry, show and tell, journaling, and hands-on activities. Fine motor skills are developed through various writing exercises where children learn to print upper and lower case letters, their first and last name, and various high frequency vocabulary words. Children also participate in creative writing exercises in their journals.
Mathematics includes the use of manipulative and writing activities to recognize, count and order numbers to thirty, sort and classify objects, sequence and make patterns, make and read graphs, perform addition and subtraction, compare height, width, length and depth, identify money, and tell time.
Science and
Social Studies are studied thematically throughout the year through reading and religion. Topics covered are family, community, and the world around us. Students also explore ocean life, seasons, food and nutrition, animals and pets, and the five senses.
